Aldo P. Greco, Class of 1923
Larino, Italy – Mechanical Engineering
"Grek" first attended Fitchburg High School to acclimate to life in the United States before entering WPI. Active in the Cosmopolitan Club, his classmates noted his "loud and hearty laughter" in their senior yearbook.
Greco went on to earn an MBA from Harvard and spent his entire career in the Philadelphia, PA area. He remained active and involved with WPI as an alumnus, even serving as president of the Philadelphia chapter of the Alumni Association.
Patrick J. Murphy, Class of 1909
Berehaven, Ireland – Electrical Engineering
Murphy or "Murf" enrolled in WPI after first taking courses across Worcester at Holy Cross. After graduating from WPI, he worked as an engineer in Connecticut, New York, Illinois and England.
He retired in 1948 after the death of his wife, an Irish woman from his hometown. Murphy passed away in 1965 while on a return voyage to his childhood home of County Cork, Ireland.
Guido F.H. von Wrede, Class of 1888
Antwerp, Belgium – Mechanical Engineering
Guido Franz Hubert von Wrede was WPI's first Belgian student and served as the editor of the 1888 Yearbook. A serious student, he was remembered by his classmates for his support of the anti-alcohol Temperance movement.
A member of the class gymnastics squad, he often competed on the parallel and horizontal bars. von Wrede completed classes at MIT before accepting a position with the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad. He was fond of traveling back to Europe
